These are the highlights of Physics 2024:
In the week from 23 to 28 September 2024, the "Highlights of Physics" science festival will make a stop in the state capital and offer a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages:
In a large exhibition on Ernst-August-Platz in front of the central railway station, interested parties can explore surprising effects and new developments ranging from atomic physics to astrophysics. Physicists from Hanover and all over Germany will be on hand to answer questions from the interested public about their current research work.
A particular focus of the "Highlights of Physics" is an extensive programme for children and young people - from activities for primary school children to career advice. Hands-on experiments, science shows, quizzes and children's theatre plays convey physics concepts intuitively and playfully. The junior laboratory enables young visitors to conduct experiments under expert guidance. In the nationwide "exciting physics" competition, pupils from year five onwards can have their exhibits judged by an expert jury and win great prizes. Challenging workshops complete the festival's programme. There are ten different lectures in the morning in the Cumberland Gallery, especially for school classes.
A varied programme of lectures at Leibniz University, the Theater am Aegi, and the Cumberlandsche Galerie rounds off the festival. Speakers include TV presenter Prof. Dr Harald Lesch ("Sun, Moon and Stars") and Prof. Dr Metin Tolan (Are the stunts in the James Bond films physically possible?).
The DPG organises the Science Festival 2024 with funding from the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation in Hanau. The "Highlights of Physics" are also supported by numerous other institutions, such as ams OSRAM, Niedersachsenmetall, TÜV NORD, and Laseroptik GmbH, with Mein EinkaufsBahnhof as a cooperation partner. Thanks to this sponsorship, admission to the entire science festival is free. For individual events with limited seating, such as the evening lectures, free registration is required in advance via the website www.highlights-physik.de.
Your job:
At the various venues (tents in front of the central railway station, Leibniz University, Theater am Aegi and the Cumberlandsche Galerie), you will support the team in looking after
- exhibition stands,
- book tables and
- information stands.
You will help the speakers and workshop leaders to ensure that the
- lectures
- student competitions and
- workshops
run smoothly.
As an on-site host, you will help visitors find their way to the venues and have a positive festival experience. We are expecting around 60,000 visitors of all ages during the week. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience at a major event organised by renowned organisations at various locations. A degree in physics is not necessary. However, we would like a friendly smile and an approachable, helpful demeanour towards the various visitor groups. Do you speak several languages? Please let us know.
You will receive a so-called Hiwi contract with Leibniz Universität Hannover for the duration of the event.
