The PhoenixD cluster of excellence has applied for a second round of funding under the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. In Bonn, the team led by spokesperson Uwe Morgner (8th from right) presented its research plans together with Falko Mohrs (3rd from right), Minister for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony, Volker Epping (far right), President of Leibniz Universität Hannover, and Rüdiger Eichel, Head of the Research, Innovation, Europe Department at the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (2nd from right). Together, they answered questions from the international team of experts.
In the first funding period (1 January 2019 to 31 December 2025), the German federal and state governments support 57 Clusters with a total annual budget of 385 Mio. Euro. In the second funding period (1 January 2026 to 31 December 2032), up to 70 Clusters of Excellence can receive funding with an annual budget of 539 Mio. Euro.
The DFG organises the selection process for the Clusters of Excellence. The funding decision on the future Clusters of Excellence will be announced on 22 May 2025.
